Part- Time Shelter Relief Staff

 

Durham Crisis Response Center is seeking to fill a Part-time Shelter Relief Staff position (12 hour weekend shifts 7am-7pm/ 7pm-7am and some weekday shifts Monday-Friday 7am-3pm, 5pm-11pm, or 11pm-7am as needed)

The overall responsibility of the Shelter Relief Staff is to provide on-site supportive services to shelter residents, to ensure coordination with other agencies, and to assist with all aspects of shelter management. As needed, this position provides back-up coverage to Full Time Case Managers, organizes activities, and represents the Durham Crisis Response Center at community events.

 

Education: High school diploma or equivalent, degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in the field of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault, Residential Services, or Case Management

  • Experience in human service field recommended.

  • Bi-lingual preferred

Part- Time Trauma Counselor

FLSA STATUS: Part time, 8-12 hours a week

DEPARTMENT: Crisis Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Crisis Services (administrative), Clinical Supervisor (clinical)

SUMMARY

The Trauma Counselor provides trauma-informed assessment, crisis stabilization, and therapeutic services to adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking whose clinical needs exceed the scope of intern-level counseling.

This role focuses on high-acuity cases and complex trauma presentations within a short-to-intermediate-term treatment model. When clinically appropriate, the counselor facilitates transition to Medicaid-funded or community-based long-term providers, while ensuring continuity of care and ethical treatment planning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Assessment and Treatment

·        Conduct comprehensive intake and trauma-informed assessments.

·        Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for clients presenting with complex trauma, acute distress, or co-occurring concerns.

·        Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services.

·        Deliver trauma-focused therapeutic interventions grounded in evidence-based or evidence-informed practice.

·        Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency and licensure standards.

Stabilization and Care Transitions

·        Determine appropriate duration of care based on clinical need and agency model.

·        Maintain an active caseload of approximately 4–8 clients, depending on acuity and scheduling structure.

·        Coordinate referrals to Medicaid or community-based providers when stabilization has been achieved.

·        Ensure warm handoffs and avoid abrupt service termination when ongoing treatment remains clinically indicated.

Risk Management and Safety

  • Conduct lethality, suicide, and risk assessments.

  • Develop and monitor safety plans in coordination with Crisis Services staff.

  • Exercise independent clinical judgment in high-risk situations.


Clinical Collaboration

  • Participate in interdisciplinary case consultation.

  • Provide consultative guidance to interns and advocates when appropriate.

  • Contribute to quality improvement within the counseling program.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Required Education and Experience

·        Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, or related field.

·        Minimum 3–5 years of post-graduate clinical experience.

·        Demonstrated experience treating complex trauma in adult populations.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

·        Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

·       Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking.

·       Experience in nonprofit or community-based settings.

·       Training in trauma-specific modalities (e.g., EMDR, CPT, TF-CBT, somatic approaches).
